Welcome! I’m Nils Peterson

I’m a Certified Public Accountant on Lopez Island. I earned my bachelor’s degree in economics at Clemson University and a master’s of accountancy at the University of Denver. It is my mission to bring clarity and confidence to my clients' financial lives. Whether you're an individual, a small business owner, or a nonprofit, my goal is to be your trusted partner in navigating the complexities of tax preparation, bookkeeping, and financial planning.

A Rich and Varied Professional Journey

My career has taken me from small-town financial advising to corporate boardrooms, giving me a unique perspective managing financial challenges of all sizes. I started my journey at Edward Jones, working with individuals and small business owners to craft strategies to meet their financial goals. Next, I worked as a staff accountant managing the financials for a 300+ unit resort condominium association, inspiring me to return to school to receive my master’s and pursue a career as a Certified Public Accountant.

After completing my graduate studies, I joined KPMG and later Amazon, where I was given the opportunity to polish my accounting acumen and to learn the value of clear communication, efficiency under pressure, and strategic planning. Ultimately, I felt drawn to work with individuals and small business owners again, so that I can re-focus and drive meaningful impact within my community.

Life Beyond Numbers

When I’m not working with clients, you’ll likely find me spending quality time with my fiancé, Maddie Rain, as we plan our future and tackle projects in our new home. I also love helping on the family farm—a chance to reconnect with nature and our community roots. For adventure, I turn to the outdoors, enjoying mountain biking, skiing, and running. These activities keep me grounded, energized, and inspired to approach my work with a fresh perspective.
